Asbestos Removal in Bay Shore, NY, Sealed Off From the Rest of Your Home
Removal, sampling and after-hours cleanup, plus ACP-5 reports and DEP order work for anything you own inside the five boroughs. One room gets wrapped in plastic and put under negative pressure. The rest of the house never sees the dust.
Before the first bag is sealed
Licensed by state and city
We hold an abatement license from New York State and a second one from New York City.
Plastic up first
Sheeting hung and every gap taped before a single tile gets lifted.
Air moving one way
Filtered machines pull air toward the work, never toward the hallway or the bedrooms.
Damp, double sealed
Debris stays misted on the way out, then goes into marked bags bound for a permitted dump site.
A passing air sample
Nobody tears down the plastic until a third-party reading says the room is clean.
Asbestos Services for Bay Shore Houses and Buildings
One caller found a crumbling elbow on the boiler pipe. Another has a remodel frozen halfway through demo. A third owns a walk-up in Queens with a permit stuck in limbo. Different problems, five services. Skim them and spot your situation.
Asbestos Removal
Old boiler lagging, basement tile and the tar-black glue beneath it, textured ceilings, wallboard compound, cement shingles, wrapped ductwork. Taken out behind plastic before the kitchen, the new furnace or the closing.
Emergency Asbestos Removal
A burst line soaked the pipe wrap. Smoke got into an old ceiling. Somebody started swinging a hammer too soon. We seal the room off and clean it up properly, even at two in the morning on a holiday.
Asbestos Testing
Small samples, cut carefully and read by an accredited lab. You find out what is actually in the tile or the plaster, so the only material removed is material that has to go.
ACP-5 Filing
Own property in the five boroughs, or build there? Most city Buildings permits want this assessment attached. A DEP-certified investigator surveys the space, signs it and gets it on file.
DEP Asbestos Stop Work Order Removal
Idle city site, DEP asbestos notice taped up? We sort the paperwork, abate what was cited and keep third-party air sampling running, so the site is ready when the city comes to look.
How a Job Runs, Start to Clearance
You describe it on the phone
Color, texture, location. Is it cracked or still whole? Is a contractor waiting, a closing, a city deadline? Mention any order or permit right away. It changes the sequence.
Samples, then a lab answer
A certified inspector clips small pieces of anything questionable and seals each one. An accredited lab reads them. No calls made from a photo, nothing pulled out on a hunch.
Scope and paperwork in writing
Before setup, you hold a page that lists each material, the containment layout, where the bags end up and the air reading that ends the job. State notifications, or an ACP-5 on a city project, get drafted at this stage.
Seal the room, then remove
Poly on the floor and walls. Registers and doorways closed. Negative air machines humming. Then licensed handlers mist the material, pry it loose and bag it inside the enclosure.
Clean, test, hand it back
Two passes: a HEPA vacuum, then damp rags on every ledge and pipe. A third-party technician samples the air. When the numbers come back right, the enclosure is dismantled and the room is yours again.
Why the Dust Stays Where It Belongs
Undisturbed asbestos mostly just sits there. Disturbed asbestos in an open room is the real hazard. Everything about how we work is aimed at keeping your house in the first category.
Licensed handlers on every crew
State rules call for licensed asbestos handlers on abatement work. That is exactly who arrives. People who have hung poly and run negative air many times over, not a general labor crew learning in your cellar.
Containment built properly
Floors and walls lined, registers and door frames taped, filtered machines drawing air inward. Any fiber that slips loose gets pulled toward a HEPA filter, not toward the family room.
The scope is written down first
No plastic goes up until you have the plan on paper. Each material named, where the poly walls go, which facility takes the bags and what air result ends things. Nothing invented halfway through.
A clean, cleared handoff
Sealing the final bag is not the finish line. The finish line is a vacuumed, wiped-down room and an independent reading that says the air is fine. Only then does your family or your carpenter step back inside.
Covering Bay Shore and the Towns Around It
Bay Shore sits on the Great South Bay side of the Town of Islip, with Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway crossing town and the Long Island Rail Road stopping right in the middle of it. Much of the housing stock dates from years when asbestos was poured into tile, pipe covering and siding without a second thought, from older homes south of Main Street to postwar capes and ranches toward the Southern State. So boiler rooms, basement floors and hallway ceilings here deserve a sample before a renovation. Our trucks also run to Islip, West Islip, Brentwood, Central Islip, Babylon, Lindenhurst, Deer Park, Hauppauge, Dix Hills and Commack.
Older houses, hidden materials
Lagging tucked behind a finished basement wall. Tile under two layers of newer floor. Swirled texture on a stairwell ceiling. Plenty of South Shore houses keep secrets like these, and sampling finds them before a crowbar does.
Homes and commercial space
A cape in West Islip and a shop on Montauk Highway get identical treatment: an enclosure, misted removal and a third-party air reading before anybody reoccupies the space.
One number for every town
Babylon, Brentwood or Commack, (631) 551-3573 rings through to the same crew, day or night.

Asbestos Questions We Hear Most Often
Plain replies to what Suffolk homeowners and builders ask before the plastic goes up.
Is it okay to take out asbestos on my own?
Please do not. Scraping, snapping or sanding it throws off fibers too fine to see, and a shop vac or a broom only scatters them farther through the house. New York reserves abatement for licensed contractors and handlers, with enclosures, approved disposal and air testing that a weekend project simply cannot match.
Could I spot asbestos just by looking at a material?
No. It hides inside ordinary-looking tile, plaster, pipe covering and shingles. Only a sample read by an accredited lab settles it. Anything installed before the 1980s that you plan to cut or pull should be treated as suspect until results say otherwise.
How long will the removal take?
That depends on the quantity, the type of material and how easy it is to reach. A few feet of lagging and an entire basement floor are very different jobs. Setup, removal, the two cleaning passes and the air reading all happen in sequence, and once the scope is settled we walk you through what yours involves.
Who can sign and file an ACP-5 for a New York City building?
A DEP-certified asbestos investigator, and nobody else. That investigator inspects the area your permit work covers, signs the Asbestos Assessment Report and submits it to the city's asbestos program. It belongs to the five boroughs only; a house in Suffolk never needs one.
What in an older house is most likely to contain asbestos?
Boiler and steam pipe lagging tops the list. After that: old resilient floor tile and its dark adhesive, sprayed or swirled ceilings, wallboard compound, cement shingles on siding or roofs, and paper-like wrap on heating ducts. None of them tests positive every time, which is exactly why each gets sampled before a renovation reaches it.
What does asbestos removal cost?
There is no flat number. Price follows the kind and quantity of material, how awkward it is to reach, how big the enclosure must be and which filings apply. Once the lab confirms what is present, the scope and the price are written out for you before anyone starts.
Does an old popcorn ceiling usually have asbestos in it?
Sometimes. Acoustic and sprayed ceilings from the postwar decades often had it mixed in, and many did not. A sample answers the question. If the ceiling is in good shape and nobody is scraping it, it can usually stay put until you plan the remodel.
Is asbestos removal going to push back my renovation?
Not if it is handled early. Sampling well before demo day is what keeps a project on schedule. Settle the asbestos question first, and removal slots in ahead of your contractor instead of halting them in the middle of the job.
How do you keep the dust from spreading through the house?
By building the enclosure before touching anything. Poly sheeting lines the space, openings get taped and HEPA machines create negative pressure, so air flows in rather than out. Material is misted as it comes loose and bagged on the spot. Then a vacuum pass, a wipe-down pass and a third-party air reading, all before the plastic comes down.
A Careful Crew for a Material That Needs Care
Bay Shore Asbestos Removal runs jobs the way a safety supervisor would want them run. Sample before touching. Enclose before removing. Mist it, bag it, clean twice and let an outside reading decide when people go back in. Capes, storefronts and active job sites all get that identical routine.
